Regarding the 2022 Election

Excerpt from 2022 Flyer

Last election a large majority of voters said NO to a new Village Hall. The Village Board has figured out a way (by creating a new TIF zone) to accomplish that goal without taxpayer approval by diverting crucial funds from other taxing bodies, especially the school districts who will lose the most.  Every year this will result in increased taxes by levy or referendum.

Since the Board did not hear us last time, we are proposing 2 questions for the June ballot and, if we all turn out to vote, perhaps they will listen this time. Remember, your vote IS your voice and you need to speak out.

  1. Shall the Village of Winfield spend $15 million WITHOUT voter approval on a new village hall complex which will raise your taxes? Yes or No
  1. Shall the Village proceed with TIF2 that will deny $16 million of essential funding to the children of school districts 34 and 94 which will also raise your taxes? Yes or No
  • CREATING TIF2 WAS ONLY ABOUT FUNDING A NEW VILLAGE HALL AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!
  • Implementing TIF2 will give the Village singular control of the expected $20 million that rightly belongs to the other taxing bodies.
  • Withholding of $16 million from school districts will force them to ask taxpayers to cover the deficit. (Which they do NOT want to do)
  • School district 34 was forced to sue the Village to prevent them from building a new village hall with the district’s money.

Since only three advisory question are allowed by law on the ballot, the Village Board voted to put three vague questions on this ballot to block either of the above questions from appearing on the ballot — to prevent you from answering these specific questions.
